PS / SPS TEMPORARY EXPERIMENTS

Early Instructions

The information contained in these pages shall be taken into account as early as possible in the design of the experiment to facilitate the safety validation process.

You will find details about:

  • List of materials forbidden at CERN;
  • Instructions and recommendations to be followed for specific hazards and risks brought by the experiment to CERN;
  • Best safety practices for installation and operations of detectors at CERN;
  • Safety contacts for any additional questions.
  • This process will start from few months to 1 week before your experiment is installed at CERN, depending on the hazards and risk implications.

→ Fire Safety – Allowed material

→ Electrical Risks – Good Practices

→ Flammable Gases

→ GreenHouse Gases (F-Gas)

→ Laser Safety – 3B, 3R and 4 Class

→ Cryogenic Safety

→ Mechanical Safety

Despite the start of your run, no safety inspection will be made on Saturday or Sunday.
Please contact the Safety office (via the ISIEC request) to organize it during working days.

For any specific risks please contact EP Safety Office.

ISIEC / Safety Clearance

Please complete your ISIEC form here.

Despite the start of your run, no inspections will be carried out on Saturday, Sunday, or public holidays
Please contact the Safety office (via the ISIEC request) to organize it during working days
.
If you have any question, please contact the EP Safety Office at ep-adso@cern.ch.
ISIEC and Safety Clearance process:

1. Fill in the ISIEC form
A proposed time for a safety inspection should be specified.

2. Submit the ISIEC form
The following emails must be provided in order to notify the required participants from the experiment:
– Experiment Safety Contact email
– Technical Contact email
– Other email of concerned people

3. After the submission of the ISIEC form
You will be contacted by the EP Safety Office to confirm the date/time of the safety inspection.

4. Safety Inspection
Please ensure the installation is completed before the Safety Inspection.

5. Safety Clearance
After the on-site inspection, if no major remarks are present, the EP Safety Office delivers a formal Safety Clearance report via email.
This report might also contain remarks and actions to be done before the start of operation.
To be noticed that any significant modification to the set-up, done after the inspection, invalid the clearance.
