GIF++
Organization
Information about the organization of the GIF++ Facility can be found in the CERN greybook and in the official GIF++ website.
Location
The GIF++ Facility is located inside the building 887 (EHN1), in the CERN Prevessin site.

Description
Located at the H4 beam line in EHN1, the GIF++ is a unique place where high energy charged particle beams (mainly muon beam with momentum up to 100 GeV/c) are combined with a 14 TBq[1] 137Cesium source. The source activity produces an intense background gamma field, allowing to accumulate doses equivalent to HL-LHC (High Luminosity LHC) experimental conditions in a reasonable time. Due to an advanced absorption filter system, the gamma background can also be tailored to the expected HL-LHC background for various types of muon chambers at their foreseen location in the LHC experiments.
More details about the GIF++ facility can be found here.

The users of an experiment with allocated beam or irradiation time in the GIF++ Facility should follow up the GIF +++ ISD.

How to access
The GIF++ Facility is hosted inside a building classified as Supervised Area. Thus, a personal dosimeter (DIS) is needed to enter, together with safety shoes and helmet as mandatory PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

In addition, in order to enter the GIF Irradiation Bunker (zone turnstile) the followings are necessary:
- an approved IMPACT and an activated operational dosimeter (DMC);
- the on line trainings on the CERN LMS website: Safety at CERN and CERN – Beam Facilities; + Radiation Protection – Supervised Area
- access request in ADaMS: EHN1-GIF.

Details about how to access the GIF++ Facility can be found here.
