Introduction
Based on the information returned in the ISIEC form, the experiment is considered by the DSO and the HSE unit not to have ‘major Safety implications’. As such the EP-SO, and not the HSE Unit, will perform safety checks on the experiment prior to the activity.
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to outline the result of the safety checks performed by the EP-SO. An experiment may be granted safety clearance for operation (with or without conditions) or safety clearance will not be granted.
Independent of the outcome of these safety checks the experiment safety responsible remains responsible for the safe operation of the experiment.
Validity
The experiment safety responsible shall notify the EP-DSO if there are:
Any major changes in the equipment or activities related to the experimental programme;
New activities or equipment brought into the experimental programme;
The DSO and the HSE unit will then determine if there are activities or equipment that have major safety implications and as such require Safety checks to be carried out by the HSE Unit instead of the EP-SO.
General remarks:
1. Install the EP Safety Poster on the experimental entrance door (PPE), filling in all the information, hazards identification, experimental layout and safety data that is required.
2. A helmet, safety shoes, and personal dosimeter must be worn at all times within your experimental area. Trousers or leggings are required; shorts are not allowed.
3. Keep all passages clear from equipment, tools, material, cables, etc. and remove all unnecessary items (such as chairs etc.) before taking beam.
4. Familiarise yourself with the location of the nearest emergency exit and escape routes.
5. Work areas must be kept tidy at all times. Empty bins and remove trash in your control room before leaving.
